Back-calculation of scales with the method by Vovk was used to determine the growth rate of bream. A comparison with the data given in the literature revealed that dramatic changes in bream biomass in Lake Dħbie and the Szczecin Lagoon, which took place in the last twenty five years, were accompanied by an only slight (though noticeable) increase of the growth rate of fishes 3-8 years of age.
